Nigerian fintech and digital services company Plug.ng has launched a Global eSIM solution designed to provide seamless internet connectivity for Nigerians travelling abroad, eliminating the need for physical SIM cards and reducing dependence on expensive international roaming services.
The new service, unveiled on June 15, 2026, allows travellers to activate mobile data plans digitally and stay connected in more than 150 countries without changing their primary phone numbers or searching for local network providers upon arrival.
The company said the initiative was developed to address one of the most common challenges faced by international travellers, reliable and affordable internet access across multiple destinations.
Speaking at the launch, Sam Aiyesoro, Plug.ng Chief Executive Officer, said the company remains committed to developing solutions that simplify digital experiences for Nigerians at home and abroad.
According to him, dependable internet access has become an essential requirement for modern travellers, who rely on connectivity for communication, navigation, banking transactions, travel bookings and business activities.
“The Global eSIM initiative reflects our commitment to innovation and customer convenience. Travellers today need uninterrupted connectivity wherever they go, and this solution is designed to deliver exactly that,” Aiyesoro said.
Also speaking, Plug.Olagunju Adetayo, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, explained that the platform was built to offer speed, convenience, and simplicity.
He noted that customers can purchase eSIM packages directly through the Plug.ng platform and activate them within minutes on compatible devices.
According to him, the service removes many of the traditional hurdles associated with obtaining mobile connectivity in foreign countries, including the need to buy local SIM cards or visit telecom retail outlets.
“Technology should solve practical problems. We designed the Global eSIM platform to make connectivity easier, faster and more accessible for travellers,” Adetayo said.
One of the unique features of the service is the ability for customers to purchase and fund data plans in naira through their Plug.ng accounts.
The company said this addresses a major challenge faced by many Nigerians who often struggle with international payment options when subscribing to foreign telecommunications services.
Industry analysts believe the feature could make the platform particularly attractive to Nigerian travellers seeking a more convenient alternative to traditional roaming services.
Plug.ng disclosed that the service provides coverage across major destinations in Africa, Europe, North America, South America, Asia and the Middle East.
However, the company clarified that the product is primarily a data service for Nigerians travelling outside the country and can only be activated upon arrival in supported destinations, in line with international network requirements.
