The World Bank has opened applications for the Alan W. Heston Fellowship, offering up to $10,000 to support early-career researchers and statisticians working in economic measurement and international price comparisons.
The fellowship supports research projects lasting six to twelve months focused on improving economic statistics, particularly studies related to purchasing power parity (PPP) and global price comparisons.
According to the World Bank, the programme aims to develop the next generation of experts in international economic statistics and strengthen national and regional statistical systems. Selected fellows will receive mentorship from experts in the International Comparison Program (ICP) and support in accessing data, refining research methods, and applying statistical insights.
Fellows will also be required to submit research findings, produce a draft or final paper, and share insights through the World Bank’s Data Blog or Policy Research Working Paper Series.
Applications are open to early-career scholars within five years of completing their PhD, including post-doctoral researchers, assistant professors, PhD candidates on the job market, and statisticians working in national or regional statistical agencies.
Applicants must submit a CV, a cover letter (maximum 500 words), a research proposal (up to 1,500 words), two references, and supporting documentation if employed by a government agency.
The application deadline is March 29, 2026, with shortlisted candidates expected by April 13 and final selections by May 15.
The fellowship honours Alan W. Heston, a pioneer of global economic statistics and co-founder of the Penn World Table, whose work helped shape international comparisons of GDP and economic performance worldwide.
Applicants should complete their application and upload all supporting materials through the online submission portal
