Trump’s Threat: FixPolitics Condemns Violence, Tasks FG

Following the recent declaration by United States President Donald Trump of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern, and his threat of possible military action if the Nigerian government fails to stop the alleged genocidal killing of Christians, FixPolitics has said the Federal Government has a constitutional duty to protect all citizens, without fear or favour.

In a statement signed by the Executive Director, Anthony Ubani, FixPolitics condemned all forms of violence and killings in the country, noting that every life, Christian, Muslim or otherwise, matters.

However, FixPolitics believes that the Bola Tinubu administration bears part of the responsibility for this crisis of perception.

The group lamented that two years into its tenure, the government never appointed ambassadors to key countries, including the United States.

The statement reads, “By neglecting this important task, it effectively shut the door of diplomacy. This vacuum has allowed misinformation, misrepresentation and mistrust to grow unchecked. Diplomacy could have addressed concerns before they escalated to this dangerous point.

“Nigeria is a sovereign nation. While we appreciate the concern of the United States for human rights and justice, any threat of military intervention undermines our sovereignty and will not solve the problem. Bombs and guns do not heal wounds or build peace; they destroy lives and deepen divisions.”

The group urged the U.S. government to use diplomatic channels and its soft power, not military might, to engage Nigeria constructively, adding, “Pressure, yes, but through diplomacy, development, and dialogue.”

The Nigerian government, for its part, must rise to its duty, according to a citizen-led movement to structurally change and innovate politics in the world. “It must act decisively to end all forms of violence, ensure justice for victims, and rebuild national trust. Leadership must be visible, responsive and accountable.”

FixPolitics called for a return to diplomacy, good governance and the protection of every Nigerian life as the only path to lasting peace and international respect.
