Sheriff Oborevwori, Delta State Governor, on Wednesday, presented a N1.664 trillion Appropriation Bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly during plenary in Asaba.
Presenting the budget proposal, the governor announced that N499 billion (30%) is allocated to recurrent expenditure, while N1.165 trillion (70%) is earmarked for capital projects.
He noted that the 2026 budget represents a N685 billion increase, about 70 per cent over the 2025 fiscal plan.
Funding and Key Priorities
Oborevwori said the budget will be funded through statutory allocations, internally generated revenue, mineral derivation funds, VAT, and other sources.
A major focus for 2026 is infrastructure, with N450 billion set aside for road construction and rehabilitation across the state.
“A well-developed road network is crucial for economic growth,” he said, adding that improved transport infrastructure will reduce costs, attract investment, open markets, and create jobs.
The governor also identified agriculture as a critical sector, disclosing that N10 billion has been allocated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
“Agriculture remains key to economic diversification, food security, and job creation. We will continue to invest strategically to accelerate agricultural development,” he stated.
Call for Quick Passage
Oborevwori commended the Assembly for its cooperation and urged lawmakers to expedite consideration of the budget to sustain the administration’s development momentum.
He reaffirmed his commitment to building “a prosperous, secure, and stronger Delta where no one is left behind.”
Assembly’s Response
Speaker Rt. Hon. Dennis Guwor praised the governor’s achievements under the ‘Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda’, citing improvements in infrastructure, social interventions, fiscal discipline, and security.
He also commended Oborevwori for approving the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS) and initiating permanent offices for the Assembly Service Commission.
Guwor assured the governor of a timely and thorough review of the proposal.
“Our objectives remain aligned, delivering the greatest good to the greatest number of Delta people,” he said.
