The joint venture between NNPC Exploration and Production Limited (NEPL) and Seplat Energy has commissioned two new Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) laboratories in secondary schools in Edo State, reinforcing its push for sustainable education.
The facilities, located at Ogbe and Uselu Secondary Schools in Oredo and Ikpoba Okha local government areas, were unveiled in Benin City with the aim of promoting practical learning and academic excellence.
Speaking at the event, Chioma Afe, Director of External Affairs and Social Performance at Seplat Energy, said the JV has now delivered nine STEAM labs in Edo State, bringing the total across Edo and Delta to 14.
She noted that the initiative is part of a broader commitment to strengthening education through hands-on learning and innovation-driven teaching.
The laboratories are equipped with modern teaching tools and powered by solar energy to ensure uninterrupted use, enabling both students and teachers to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings.
Afe added that similar projects would be extended to other states where the company operates.
Nicolas Foucart, Managing Director of NEPL, represented by Reginald Duke, said the labs are designed to nurture creativity, critical thinking, and innovation among students.
He stressed that investing in education remains a key pathway to national development and youth empowerment.
Paddy Iyamu, former Edo State Commissioner for Education, described the project as a high-impact investment in the future of Nigerian children, urging other companies to emulate the initiative.
Edith Ebomoyi, Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Education, said the development marks a significant step in improving education outcomes in the state.
School leaders at both institutions also pledged to safeguard and maximise the use of the facilities.
With continued investment in STEAM education, the NEPL–Seplat JV is positioning students with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
