The Lagos State Government has announced that a planned 132kV electricity transmission line will significantly improve power supply across the Lekki-Epe and Ajah axis.
AbdulHafeez Toriola, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ engagement held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in Ikeja. According to a statement by Adetola Idowu, the ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, the project is designed to address persistent power shortages in Ibeju-Lekki and surrounding communities.
Toriola said the initiative would help tackle epileptic electricity supply and support rapid development within the Lekki-Epe growth corridor. He noted that the engagement forum was organised to sensitise residents, gather feedback, and address concerns relating to land use, physical planning, and ongoing road construction along the transmission corridor.
In addition to the 132kV transmission line, the state is also planning a gas pipeline project. The transmission line’s Right-of-Way will stretch from Ajah to Ibeju-Lekki (Eleko) Junction, while the proposed gas pipeline will run from Bonny Camp to Alaro City in Epe.
Officials assured residents that adequate compensation would be paid for affected structures. The Director of Acquisitions, Revocation and Compensation at the Lagos State Lands Bureau said property owners with valid land titles and approved building plans would qualify for compensation, though the government pledged fairness in its implementation.
Earlier, Biodun Ogunleye, Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to expanding power and gas infrastructure under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The transmission project aligns with the state’s broader plan to generate 6 gigawatts of electricity within three years to strengthen energy independence beyond the national grid.
