The Katsina State Government has proposed N156.3 billion for the education sector in its 2026 budget, the highest allocation across all ministries.
Alhaji Malik Anas, the state’s Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, announced the figures on Wednesday, noting that education accounts for 17.14 per cent of the state’s N897.8 billion budget proposal presented earlier by Governor Dikko Radda. The allocation covers both basic/secondary education, as well as higher institutions.
Infrastructure, agriculture, and health follow with allocations of N117.1 billion (13.05%), N78.6 billion (8.76%), and N67.5 billion (7.52%), respectively. Water resources and the environment received N62.8 billion and N53.8 billion, respectively. Collectively, these six sectors represent 59.74 per cent of total spend.
Overall, N730.1 billion (81.23%) is dedicated to capital projects, while N167.7 billion (18.68%) is earmarked for recurrent expenditure. The 2026 budget, tagged “Building Your Future III”, is 30 per cent higher than 2025, reflecting the government’s plan to accelerate development.
Katsina has also expanded student support, approving N372 million in bursaries for 24,452 students, alongside multiple disbursements totalling over N1.9 billion since Governor Radda took office. Scholarships for 12,609 new students are expected soon, including awards for academic excellence and learners with disabilities.
