The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved N853 million for the purchase of 86 housing units to support public servants and other beneficiaries across the state.

Sagir Musa, Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture, disclosed the decision while briefing journalists after the council meeting in Dutse, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

Musa said the council approved the acquisition of the housing units from the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development at a total cost of N853,138,929.56. He explained that the initiative is aimed at addressing accommodation challenges, particularly for public servants, while expanding access to affordable housing.

According to him, the move aligns with Governor Umar Namadi’s 12-Point Agenda on housing and urban development, which seeks to reduce housing deficits and improve living standards in the state.

A breakdown of the figures shows that the average cost per unit stands at approximately N9.92 million. This places the pricing within the range of federally subsidised housing schemes.

In November 2024, Musa Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, said one-bedroom units under the Renewed Hope Estates Programme cost between N8 million and N9 million, benefiting from federal subsidies on land and infrastructure. By contrast, units developed under the Public-Private Partnership Renewed Hope Cities model cost about N22 million due to financing and infrastructure expenses.

The council also reiterated its commitment to agriculture, having previously approved N7 billion for the 2025 dry season rice programme and N1.6 billion for the 2026 Dry Season Workers’ Agricultural Support Programme.
