The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has made the use of a Microsoft Camera mandatory for all Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres handling candidate registration for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
This strict directive is part of JAMB’s efforts to strengthen identity verification and prevent cheating after the 2025 UTME. A post-mortem of the 2025 exam revealed several instances of fraud, including image blending used to facilitate impersonation.
JAMB officials, including the Gombe State Coordinator, Mr. Johnson Adebiyi, have been monitoring centres to ensure they meet the October 1 deadline for full compliance. Any CBT centre that breaches this new directive faces immediate delisting from participating in JAMB activities.
This measure is one of several taken by JAMB to combat sophisticated, technology-driven malpractice, which included establishing a special committee to investigate thousands of suspected cases of high-tech cheating, such as biometric manipulation and AI-assisted image morphing.
