Glovo, in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has launched a new safety feature on its riders’ app, alongside a dedicated training program in Lagos, with a follow-up session scheduled for Abuja. The initiative aims to strengthen rider protection and improve road safety across Nigeria.
The feature, described by Reni Onafeko, Interim General Manager of Glovo Nigeria, as a “voluntary opt-in tool,” uses real-time data to help riders monitor and improve their driving behaviour. Onafeko emphasised that the move reflects Glovo’s long-term investment in innovation, safety, and responsible business growth in Nigeria.
“This initiative is about protection, education, and continuous improvement. By equipping riders with actionable data and structured training, we are empowering safer decision-making on Nigerian roads,” Onafeko said.
Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation Education and Innovation, Oluwatobi Idowu, encouraged riders to take advantage of the training to familiarise themselves with road safety protocols. FRSC representatives, including Assistant Corps Commander Philip Ogah, praised Glovo for its proactive approach in raising awareness and equipping riders with tools to minimise accidents and enhance road conduct.
Oluwaseun Okugboye-Bello, Head of Operations at Glovo Nigeria, noted that the safety feature protects riders, commuters, and pedestrians while embedding continuous education content into the app. Certificates were awarded to 70 participants at the conclusion of the training session.
The launch demonstrates Glovo’s commitment to a safer, more sustainable mobility ecosystem in Nigeria by combining technology, education, and human-centred design.
