The Federal Government has launched a new online portal that allows Nigerians to report fraudulent activities in housing estates. The platform, overseen by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (FMHUD), is designed to protect citizens from real estate fraud by providing a safe and easy way to submit complaints.

The portal, which can be accessed at https://reports.fmhud.gov.ng, lets users file complaints and upload evidence of fraudulent practices. Once a report is submitted, the Ministry will work with relevant partners, including professional bodies, law enforcement, and the judiciary, to investigate the case.

According to Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, this initiative is part of a larger plan to strengthen the housing industry’s regulations and protect citizens from dishonest developers. The Ministry also wants to ensure that all professionals in the housing sector are properly registered.

New Systems to Improve Oversight

In addition to the fraud portal, the Ministry also introduced the Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System (CPCPMS). This new system allows for real-time monitoring of housing projects, helping the government track contractor performance and manage project documents.

Dr. Marcus Amiolemen, a Deputy Director at the Ministry, said both new platforms demonstrate the government’s commitment to protecting its citizens and improving services. He added that the fraud portal was developed in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure that reported cases are effectively tracked and followed up on.

The government warns that fraudulent practices in the housing sector will no longer be tolerated and that offenders will face the full force of the law.
