The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in partnership with MTN Nigeria, has launched free high-speed WiFi services for passengers at Nigeria’s two busiest international airports.

The service was officially unveiled on Thursday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Terminal 2, Lagos, and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, marking what FAAN described as a major step forward in improving passenger experience and digital infrastructure.

Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, FAAN Managing Director, represented at the launch by Capt. Abdullahi Mahmood, Director of Airport Operations, said the initiative sets a new benchmark for Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem.

She disclosed that the rollout will:

  • Extend to the MMIA Temporary Terminal within weeks
  • Expand to Enugu, Port Harcourt, and Kano international airports over the next three months

“In 21st-century Nigeria, no airport should be an offline island,” she said, describing the partnership as a strong example of effective public-private collaboration.

Kuku noted that the WiFi deployment aligns with the digital economy drive of President Bola Tinubu and the reform agenda of Mr. Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation.

She added that the project signals FAAN’s commitment to closing service gaps, improving operational efficiency, and modernising airport infrastructure nationwide.

CEO Karl Toriola, MTN Nigeria, represented by Lynda Saint-Nwafor, Chief Enterprise Business Officer, assured passengers that the service would be reliable, secure, and efficient.

He said airports serve as critical gateways for business travellers, tourists, and service providers who require seamless connectivity.

“With this service, travellers waiting to board, in transit, or upon arrival can now stay connected freely and effortlessly,” he said.

MTN also announced plans to conduct on-ground engagement campaigns at the Lagos and Abuja airports over the next month to promote awareness and encourage usage.

The partnership underscores a broader push to strengthen national infrastructure and expand digital access in public spaces, positioning Nigerian airports for a more connected future.
