The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) officially launched contactless payments on Monday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The initiative, dubbed “Operation Go Cashless” and executed in partnership with digital payments company Paystack, is designed to phase out physical cash at FAAN revenue collection points, including car parks and access gates.
Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, FAAN’s Managing Director, said the policy is a landmark move to modernise airport operations and align with global best practices. The authority expects the system to boost accountability and increase revenue collection by up to 75 per cent once fully integrated. FAAN plans to roll out the cashless system across all airports nationwide by the first quarter of 2026.
