Engineer Abisoye-Coker Odusote highlighted NIMC’s vision to leverage digital technology for national development. She emphasized the importance of a secure identity management system in promoting financial inclusion and enhancing governance. “NIMC’s initiatives, like the National Identification Number (NIN), are crucial in improving resource distribution, economic forecasting, and policy formulation,” Odusote stated.

The NIMC DG was ably represented by Dr Alvan Ikoku, Technical Adviser, NIMC.

Pastor Lekan Balogun discussed the significant economic opportunities presented by technology. He stressed the need for investment in digital infrastructure to stimulate e-commerce, remote work, and financial technology. Balogun also highlighted the role of technology in enhancing agricultural practices and providing renewable energy solutions, particularly in underserved rural areas.

The first-panel session, “Tech for Good,” explored the beneficial applications of technology in various sectors. Jide Awe, CEO of Jidaw Systems, spoke on precision engineering in agriculture. At the same time, Tinuade Oguntuyi, Head of Core Networks ICSL, discussed the dual nature of technology and its potential for both positive and negative impacts.

The second-panel session, “AI: Hype and Reality,” examined the practical applications of artificial intelligence and the need to manage expectations. The conference concluded with key takeaways emphasizing the necessity of investing in digital infrastructure, using artificial intelligence responsibly, and fostering an environment conducive to technological innovation. As Africa advances its digital journey, collaborative efforts between government, private sector, and civil society will be crucial in harnessing technology for sustainable development.
