Enugu Air will commence direct international flight operations to London Gatwick Airport on December 10, 2026, with four flights scheduled weekly, marking a major step in the state-owned airline’s international expansion.
The airline announced that tickets for the new service are now available for booking, adding that the route will connect passengers departing from Enugu, Lagos and other parts of Nigeria with the United Kingdom.
The flights will be operated with an Airbus A330-200 leased from Portugal-based EuroAtlantic Airways under an Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance (ACMI) arrangement.
The service is being introduced through a strategic partnership with Omni-Blu Aviation (OBA), as the Enugu State Government seeks to strengthen the state’s international connectivity and expand access to global opportunities.
In a statement announcing the commencement date, the airline said the London route would provide passengers with greater flexibility and more convenient travel options between Nigeria and the UK.
Commenting on the development, Captain Tolu Ita, Enugu Air Chief Executive Officer, described the London Gatwick service as an important milestone in the airline’s international expansion.
He said the new operation would enable passengers from Enugu to begin their international journeys to London directly from their home airport, Akanu Ibiam International Airport.
“The commencement of our London Gatwick service reflects our commitment to expanding international connectivity and the vision of His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah, to connect Enugu to more opportunities across the world,” Ita said.
He added that making international travel accessible from Enugu was a key objective of the new service.
“Of particular importance is ensuring that passengers from Enugu can begin their international journey to London from their home airport, Akanu Ibiam International Airport. We are proud to make the journey from Enugu to London Gatwick a reality for our passengers,” he said.
Engr. Akinola Olateru, Omni-Blu Aviation Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said the partnership reflected the company’s commitment to expanding Nigeria’s international aviation connectivity and creating more travel opportunities between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Enugu Air Chief Operating Officer, Ugonna Aguboukwo, said the four weekly flights would provide passengers with greater flexibility when planning their journeys to and from London.
The announcement follows an earlier disclosure that Enugu Air had secured approval for the Lagos-London Gatwick route through its partnership with Omni-Blu Aviation.
The latest announcement provides the operational details, including the December 10 commencement date, flight frequency and aircraft to be deployed.
The Airbus A330-200 will operate under an ACMI leasing arrangement, which covers the aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance, allowing the airline to deploy capacity for its international operations without independently providing all the operational resources.
The London service forms part of the broader ambition of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration to position Enugu as an international business, tourism and investment destination.
With four weekly flights planned, Enugu Air is seeking to strengthen air links between southeastern Nigeria and the UK while offering travellers from other parts of the country additional international travel options.
The commencement of operations will also provide passengers from Enugu with an opportunity to access London Gatwick without first travelling to Lagos or another major departure hub.
