Mohammed Adamu Daggo, company’s Chief Executive Officer, made the call while highlighting the importance of reconnecting Africans with their botanical heritage through the company’s Back to the Roots initiative.
Daggo said the initiative seeks to encourage Africans to rediscover traditional knowledge of indigenous plants and their historical uses, while ensuring that such knowledge is properly documented and passed on to future generations.
“Back to the Roots is our invitation to Africans everywhere to reconnect with a part of our heritage that deserves to be remembered, understood and carried forward,” he said. He clarified that the initiative was not intended to discourage the use of modern medicine or promote traditional remedies as substitutes for professional healthcare.
“Going back to the roots does not mean going backwards. It does not mean abandoning modern medicine or replacing professional healthcare with traditional remedies. Modern medicine remains essential,” Daggo said. Instead, he advocated combining indigenous knowledge with scientific research to explore Africa’s botanical resources responsibly.
“We envision an Africa where our botanical heritage is not forgotten, where traditional knowledge inspires responsible scientific exploration and where more people have access to quality wellness products and reliable information,” he said.
Daggo stressed that preserving the continent’s botanical heritage requires collective action, including learning, sharing indigenous knowledge and making informed choices.
He added that traditional knowledge could provide a valuable foundation for further scientific research and product development, provided such efforts are guided by responsible scientific practices and appropriate regulatory oversight.
The initiative, he said, is intended to promote greater awareness of Africa’s botanical heritage and encourage its responsible exploration for future generations.
