Diageo Nigeria, in partnership with Celebr-8 Lyfe, the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), and the Ministry of Employment and Wealth Creation, has graduated the first cohort of its “Learning for Life” (L4L) youth empowerment programme.
The initiative, which focuses on hospitality and tourism skills development, trained over 300 young Nigerians — surpassing its initial target of 250 participants.
Launched in September 2025, the programme is aimed at improving employability through practical training, mentorship, and workplace readiness support.
According to organisers, more than 150 graduates have already secured internship placements across Lagos State’s hospitality sector, with several transitioning into full-time employment after completing their training.
The programme also integrates structured mentorship and hands-on experience designed to bridge the gap between training and real-world job opportunities.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Adebayo Alli, General Manager of West and Central Africa at Diageo Nigeria, said the initiative demonstrates the impact of cross-sector collaboration in tackling youth unemployment.
He said the programme reflects the company’s long-term commitment to investing in people and communities through sustainable skills development.
“Learning for Life reflects our belief that skills development is one of the most sustainable pathways to economic empowerment,” Alli said.
The initiative aligns with Diageo’s global “Society 2030: Spirit of Progress” agenda, which focuses on inclusion, community investment, and social impact.
Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, commended the programme for providing opportunities for young people, noting that youths make up a significant portion of Lagos State’s population.
He described the initiative as a deliberate and long-term intervention aimed at building skills and expanding opportunities in the hospitality industry.
Also speaking, Feyisayo Alayande, Executive Secretary of the LSETF, said the programme aligns with government efforts to promote youth development and economic inclusion.
She emphasised that initiatives combining practical training with employment pathways are critical to reducing barriers to opportunity.
The programme was delivered through collaboration between Diageo Nigeria, Celebr-8 Lyfe, the Lagos State government, and the LSETF.
Shobhit Jindal, General Manager of Celebr-8 Lyfe, said the success of the initiative demonstrates the power of partnerships in delivering real impact for young people.
According to organisers, the programme was also designed to promote inclusion, with opportunities created for women and persons with disabilities.
