Bolt is reporting a significant spike in airport ride requests as Nigerians abroad, holidaymakers and entertainment tourists flood major cities ahead of Detty December.
Fresh data from the e-hailing platform shows airport trips increased sharply between November 20 and December 5:
- Lagos: +14.9%
- Abuja: +17.56%
According to Bolt, the uptick marks an earlier-than-usual surge in inbound travel, driven by concert season, family reunions and end-of-year events. December typically brings heavy airport traffic, but the company says 2025 is trending above previous years.
To manage the rise, Bolt has:
- Expanded driver availability at major terminals
- Strengthened pick-up and drop-off coordination
- Issued new safety guidelines to both riders and drivers
Weyinmi Aghadiuno, Bolt’s Head of Regulatory & Policy for Africa, said the numbers highlight the platform’s increasing importance during Nigeria’s busiest mobility season.
“We’re excited to welcome more people flying in for Detty December. Our focus is ensuring smooth, safe and reliable airport trips, from touchdown to their final destination,” she said.
With more arrivals expected through late December, Bolt projects further growth in airport demand and says operational reinforcements will continue as peak travel days approach.
