The Association of Corporate and Marketing Professionals in Banks (ACAMB) has secured a public retraction from content creator Unofficial Osas over a misleading video on the Central Bank of Nigeria’s bank recapitalisation policy.

The video had claimed that 12 banks were shut down due to the recapitalisation exercise. Following engagement by ACAMB, and an invitation by the Nigerian Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, the creator withdrew the statement and issued a public apology.

In his retraction, he clarified that no Nigerian bank is shutting down, adding that most banks have already met the new capital requirements of ₦500 billion for international banks and ₦200 billion for national banks.

ACAMB said its intervention was part of its mandate to promote public enlightenment and safeguard confidence in Nigeria’s banking system.

Jide Sipe, president of ACAMB, said the association engaged the creator to ensure accurate information reached his large audience and to prevent unnecessary panic.

He stressed that an informed public is essential to maintaining trust in the resilience and stability of the financial system.

The association added that it will continue to deploy proactive communication strategies to protect the image of the banking sector and promote responsible financial reporting.
