Transafam Power Limited, a subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc (Transcorp), has launched the first edition of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme dedicated to senior citizens in its host community, Okoloma-Afam in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The initiative provided more than 30 elderly residents, 24 women and six men with comprehensive medical checks, wellness education, food supplies, essential household items, and long-term health monitoring tools.

Each beneficiary received a digital blood pressure monitor, a three-month supply of multivitamins, and a curated care package containing food items, toiletries, bedding, and other essentials.

Vincent Ozoude, Managing Director/CEO of Transafam Power, said the programme reflects the company’s commitment to improving the well-being of its host communities.

“Today marks the beginning of what will become an annual tradition,” he said. “As a company that powers nearly one-fifth of Nigeria’s electricity needs, we recognise that true progress is measured not only in megawatts but in the lives we touch. Caring for the elders who built the foundation of this community is both a privilege and a responsibility we take seriously.”

The event opened with a health talk by doctors from Avon Medical Practice, who spoke on healthy ageing, hypertension control, diabetes prevention and general preventive care. Participants also received free vital signs checks, consultations, laboratory tests where necessary, and immediate medication dispensing.

The Elderly Wellness Day is part of Transafam Power’s broader healthcare CSR focus, which also includes waste management initiatives, medical consultations, and youth employment opportunities.

Community leaders and beneficiaries praised the programme for its thoughtful organisation and meaningful impact, describing it as highly beneficial to senior citizens in Okoloma-Afam.

Transafam Power said the Elderly Wellness Day will become an annual flagship event as the company continues to expand CSR programmes that support health, education, economic empowerment, and improved quality of life in its host communities.
