President Bola Tinubu has removed Kayode Egbetokun from his position as the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), sources within the Presidency and the Police Service Commission say.

Egbetokun has been directed to prepare handover notes following a visit to the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. He will formally hand over leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to Tunji Disu, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos.

A senior police source said the decision was communicated to Egbetokun during a meeting at the Villa, and that preparations for the transition are already underway. At the time of the report, there was no official public statement from the police or government confirming the change.

This appointment makes Disu the acting IGP as the leadership transition progresses.

Note: This is a developing story and details may evolve as more information becomes available.
