Nollywood star Timini Egbuson has delivered another strong theatrical performance as his latest feature film, Love and New Notes, recorded N106.5 million in its opening weekend.

According to Nigerian box office data for the February 13–15 weekend, the romantic drama earned N103.9 million on opening day, pushing its cumulative total to approximately N106.5 million by the close of the debut weekend.

The performance places the film among the strongest openings of 2026 so far, despite heightened competition in cinemas.

Love and New Notes is directed by Kayode Kasum and written by Stephen Okonkwo. Set in 1984 Nigeria, the film follows Boma, a young man navigating love and life-altering decisions against the backdrop of economic change and currency reforms.

The story blends romance with social commentary, exploring how financial realities shape personal relationships and long-term outcomes.

The film premiered in Lagos at a high-profile event hosted by Egbuson, drawing significant attention ahead of its nationwide release. Among notable attendees were:

  • Don Jazzy
  • Funke Akindele
  • Lateef Adedimeji
  • Lil Kesh

Cast members present included Odunlade Adekola, Sophie Alakija, Eniola Badmus, and others from the production team. The evening featured a surprise birthday celebration for Sophie Alakija, adding to the celebratory mood.

The film was co-produced by FilmOne Studios and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment in collaboration with FilmTribe Media.

It secured wide cinema placement across Nigeria and Ghana, screening at major venues including:

  • Ikeja City Mall and Silverbird Galleria (Lagos)
  • Jabi Lake Mall and Silverbird Entertainment Centre (Abuja)
  • Galaxy Mall (Kaduna)
  • Silverbird Cinemas (Accra)
  • West Hills Mall (Ghana)

The strong debut follows Egbuson’s 2024 success with Reel Love, also directed by Kayode Kasum. That film:

  • Opened with N40.5 million on its first day
  • Posted N99.3 million opening weekend
  • Earned N123.2 million in its first week
  • Crossed N200 million within three weeks

In 2023, Egbuson ranked among Nigeria’s top 10 highest-grossing actors, generating nearly N3 billion in combined box office earnings from lead and supporting roles, according to FilmOne Entertainment.

A Psychology graduate of the University of Lagos, Egbuson first gained prominence on the television series Tinsel before transitioning into leading cinema roles. His performance in Elevator Baby earned him an AMVCA award and further strengthened his commercial appeal.

With Love and New Notes crossing N100 million within days of release, Egbuson continues to solidify his position as one of Nollywood’s most reliable box office draws, particularly among younger urban audiences.
