Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) Plc has expanded its operational footprint, emerging as the sole ground handling service provider at the newly commissioned Gateway International Airport in Iperu, Ogun State.
The airport was officially inaugurated by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, marking a major milestone in Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure development and positioning Ogun State as an emerging hub for passenger and cargo traffic.
SAHCO’s appointment as the exclusive ground handler highlights its strong industry reputation for operational efficiency, safety, and service delivery. The company played a central role during the commissioning, providing end-to-end ground handling services, including ramp operations, passenger facilitation, cargo handling, and overall operational support.
Taiwo Afolabi, Chairman, SAHCO, described the development as a significant endorsement of the company’s capabilities.
“This milestone reinforces our commitment to supporting the growth of Nigeria’s aviation sector through continuous investment in modern equipment, skilled personnel, and innovative service solutions,” he said, noting that the role reflects the trust placed in SAHCO’s track record nationwide.
He added that SAHCO’s partnership with Allied Air, a Nigerian cargo airline, will enhance cargo operations at the airport. The collaboration is expected to drive efficient processing of time-sensitive and high-value goods through the airport’s modern cargo facilities, supporting sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and e-commerce.
The Gateway International Airport is expected to improve regional connectivity, stimulate economic activity, and unlock new trade and investment opportunities in Ogun State and beyond.
With SAHCO anchoring ground operations, the airport is set to deliver efficient and high-quality aviation services from the outset, reinforcing its role in Nigeria’s growing air transport ecosystem.
