Skyway Aviation Handling Company PLC (SAHCO) has achieved the prestigious ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Information Security Management System (ISMS) certification, becoming the only aviation ground handling company in Nigeria, and one of the few in Africa, to attain the globally recognised information security standard.

The certification positions SAHCO at the forefront of secure aviation ground handling on the continent, reinforcing its leadership in cybersecurity, operational resilience, and service excellence.

ISO/IEC 27001:2022 is the international benchmark for information security management. It provides a structured framework for identifying risks, protecting sensitive data, strengthening cybersecurity controls, and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information.

In today’s highly digitised aviation ecosystem, where digital systems power flight coordination, cargo logistics, passenger handling, safety monitoring, and regulatory communication, robust information security is no longer optional. It is fundamental.

By securing this certification, SAHCO has demonstrated its capacity to safeguard:

  • Operational systems
  • Passenger and cargo data
  • Airline partner information
  • Regulatory and compliance communications

The certification followed an extensive audit and compliance assessment conducted by a globally accredited certification body. SAHCO met stringent requirements covering risk assessment, preventive controls, incident response, business continuity planning, and continuous monitoring.

The company’s information security framework now formally aligns with global best practices, reinforcing its cyber resilience amid evolving digital threats.

This achievement complements SAHCO’s existing portfolio of certifications, including ISAGO, RA3, EMS, QMS, SMS, ISO and SON standards, further cementing its reputation for regulatory compliance and operational excellence.

Speaking on the milestone, Executive Director Dr. Babatunde Afolabi emphasised that information security extends beyond the IT department.

“Information security is not just an IT function; it is an organisational responsibility. Every employee plays a role in protecting our systems and customer data. Through structured training, strict policies, and continuous monitoring, we have built a proactive security culture that supports safe, secure, and reliable aviation operations,” he said.

The ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification covers SAHCO’s core operations, including cargo handling, customer information management, operational systems, and critical corporate support services.

In a sector where operational downtime or data breaches can disrupt flights, compromise safety, or damage global partnerships, the certification places SAHCO among an elite group of aviation ground handling providers operating under internationally certified information security standards.

More broadly, the milestone underscores the company’s strategic focus on digital transformation, cybersecurity investment, and long-term operational integrity.

With this certification, SAHCO not only strengthens its competitive advantage but also sets a new benchmark for secure aviation ground handling in Nigeria and across Africa.
