Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) Plc has strengthened its commitment to passenger safety and accessibility with the acquisition of EVAC+CHAIR emergency evacuation chairs, becoming the first aviation ground handling company in Nigeria to deploy the specialised mobility equipment.
The investment is aimed at improving emergency response capabilities while ensuring safer, more dignified and efficient assistance for passengers with reduced mobility.
According to SAHCO, the EVAC+CHAIR is a globally recognised stairway evacuation device designed to safely transport passengers with mobility challenges during emergencies or when navigating staircases.
The chair uses an advanced gravity and friction control system that allows trained personnel to move passengers up and down stairs without heavy lifting, reducing physical strain on operators while enhancing passenger safety and comfort.
It is also equipped with secure safety harnesses, durable rubber track systems and an ergonomic design, enabling passengers who are unable to move independently to be assisted during boarding, disembarkation and emergency evacuations.

Aboderin added that the acquisition further strengthens SAHCO’s position as a preferred ground handling partner for airlines operating in Nigeria while reinforcing its commitment to international best practices.
The latest acquisition is part of SAHCO’s broader strategy to modernise its operations through investments in technology, safety equipment and workforce development.
In 2025, the company became the first aviation ground handling firm in Nigeria to deploy the Rapiscan Itemiser 5X, an explosive trace detection system recommended by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for advanced aviation security screening.
SAHCO said its continued investment in modern ground support equipment, cutting-edge technology, staff training and safety systems is designed to improve passenger experience, enhance aircraft turnaround times and deliver more efficient and reliable ground handling services to airline partners.
