Members of The Eternal Kingdom Wealth Ministry (EKWM) gathered on Saturday, June 13, 2026, for the church’s Spiritual Illumination Service (SIS), where the Lead Pastor, Pastor Monday Irenoa, delivered a thought-provoking message titled: “Success: The Enemy of Divine Advancement.”
In a sermon that challenged conventional thinking, Pastor Irenoa warned that while success is often celebrated, it can become a subtle obstacle to God’s ultimate purpose for believers.
According to him, many people are not advancing spiritually because they have become trapped by their present successes.
“Many ignore God’s grace because of success,” he said. “You were not created merely to succeed; you were created to fulfill destiny. Success is not the destination; purpose is.”
The pastor emphasised that every aspect of a believer’s life must ultimately glorify God. He explained that the goal of a Christian entrepreneur is not merely profit-making, just as the purpose of marriage extends beyond personal fulfillment.
“A Christian business is not established simply to make profit. It is established so that God may be glorified. Profit is important, but it is not the primary goal. Likewise, marriage is not the endpoint of Christian love. The ultimate objective is that God be glorified through you, your children, and your family.”
Drawing lessons from the biblical account of Naaman in 2 Kings 5, Pastor Irenoa noted that pride and self-sufficiency nearly prevented the Syrian army commander from receiving his healing. Naaman initially rejected Prophet Elisha’s instruction to wash seven times in the Jordan River, considering it beneath his status. It was only after he humbled himself and obeyed that he received his miracle.
“Don’t hinder your destiny because of your success,” Pastor Irenoa cautioned. “The critical question is: What is God asking you to do?”
Three Ways Success Can Hinder Divine Advancement
The preacher outlined three major ways success can become an enemy of spiritual progress.
1. Success Enables Alternatives
According to Pastor Irenoa, success often creates options that can distract believers from God’s original purpose.
“When alternatives increase, focus decreases,” he said.
Referencing Genesis 15:1, he encouraged believers not to limit their expectations of God while warning against allowing temporary achievements to create pride or independence.
He cited the story of Hagar and Sarah, explaining how Hagar’s pregnancy led her to disrespect her mistress. Her success became a source of arrogance until the Angel of the Lord instructed her to return and submit herself.
“If you desire divine advancement, you must respect those ahead of you,” he said. “Every success is merely a pathway to another level. Don’t stop at today’s achievement.”
He reminded the congregation that marriage, career breakthroughs, business growth, and promotions are all platforms for greater assignments, not destinations in themselves.
2. Success Gives False Assurance
The pastor further explained that success often creates a dangerous sense of arrival.
Using the example of King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 4:30, he noted how accomplishments can produce self-confidence that excludes God.
“Success can make you feel you belong. It can make you believe you have arrived. But as long as God is still placing ideas in your heart, there is more ground to cover.”
He warned against complacency and encouraged believers to maintain a growth mindset.
“Don’t allow the success of today to slow down your true success. You cannot stop moving. You must recognize that every opportunity you have received is by God’s grace.”
3. Success Awakens the Ego
Pastor Irenoa also identified ego as one of the greatest dangers accompanying success.
He urged business owners, professionals, and leaders to remain sensitive to God’s voice and responsive to divine instructions regardless of their achievements.
“The energy that delivered your present success will not be enough for tomorrow’s assignment. You will need greater grace, greater diligence, and greater dependence on God.”
He challenged worshippers to continually renew themselves spiritually and mentally.
“If you desire new glory, you must wake up. You must remain fresh. Success is not your destiny. Walking in the purpose of God is your destiny.”
The Path Forward: Humility and Continuous Investment
As he concluded, Pastor Irenoa stressed that sustained advancement requires ongoing personal, spiritual, and kingdom investment.
Referencing Philippians 2:7, he highlighted the humility of Jesus Christ, who willingly emptied Himself in obedience to God’s plan.
“To continue advancing, you must continue investing. Humility is the pathway to greater glory. We must have the mind of Christ.”
In a heartfelt appeal, he urged believers to reject pride, complacency, and self-sufficiency and instead embrace a life of continual growth, obedience, and surrender to God’s purpose.
“I want to plead with you,” he concluded. “Have the mind of Christ. Success is good, but fulfilling God’s purpose is greater.”
The message served as a powerful reminder that while the world may celebrate success, true fulfillment comes from remaining aligned with God’s purpose and advancing continually in His divine plan.
