Nigeria’s voter registration drive is off to a strong start, with over 4.4 million Nigerians completing the online pre-registration process in just four weeks. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that as of September 14, 2025, a total of 4,445,505 people had registered online since the exercise began on August 18.
The data shows that women are leading the registration effort, accounting for 51.83 per cent of all new registrants. Young people, aged 18-34, make up the largest group, representing over 65 per cent of the total. Students and business owners are the most active occupational groups. INEC noted that 92,593 of the online registrants are people with disabilities. However, all online pre-registrants must still complete the process by capturing their biometrics in person for their registration to be valid.
