Okin Biscuits has restarted one of its production lines at its factory in Offa, Kwara State, after 17 years of inactivity, marking a significant step towards the revival of the company’s manufacturing operations.
The development was announced by the company on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, through its Facebook page.
Okin Biscuits said biscuits were produced from the rehabilitated line during a technical trial, although the company stressed that additional testing, calibration and rehabilitation must be completed before full commercial production resumes.
According to the company, the production line had remained inactive for 17 years after critical components, including cables, frequency drives, contactors, motors and other electronic equipment, were stolen.
Okin said the line was subsequently rebuilt and subjected to a technical trial to determine whether it could be brought back into operation.
“For the first time in 17 years, biscuits rolled off one of our rehabilitated production lines at the factory in Offa,” the company said.
It explained that the trial was primarily aimed at testing the machinery and was not yet a test of the final Okin biscuit product.
As a result, factors such as the biscuits’ colour, appearance and final recipe were not the focus of the exercise.
Another major development for the company was the connection of its Offa factory to a 33kV Band A electricity supply by Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) on Wednesday.
Okin Biscuits described the electricity connection as another major milestone in its efforts to restore production.
The improved power supply could prove critical to the rehabilitation of the factory, given the energy-intensive nature of industrial manufacturing and the challenges manufacturers face with electricity costs and reliability.
Videos shared alongside the company’s announcement showed biscuits emerging from the rehabilitated production line during the trial.
Despite the successful trial, Okin Biscuits cautioned that the factory is not yet ready for full-scale production.
The company said further testing, calibration and rehabilitation are still required before the line can consistently produce biscuits that meet its required taste and quality standards.
The latest development therefore represents the beginning of a production revival rather than a full return to the market.
For consumers familiar with the Okin brand, the restart could eventually mark the return of a long-standing Nigerian biscuit brand to supermarket shelves, but the company has yet to announce when commercial production and distribution will officially resume.
