Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Delta State Governor, has mourned the death of Chief Mike Adiotomre, a prominent elder statesman and political leader from Ovu-Inland in Ethiope East Local Government Area, who died at the age of 88.
In a condolence message signed by Sir Festus Ahon, his Chief Press Secretary, the governor described Adiotomre as an institution of knowledge, wisdom and experience whose contributions to public service, politics and peace-building left a lasting legacy in Delta State.
Oborevwori said the late elder was more than a political leader, describing him as a father figure and a source of guidance to generations of political actors in Ethiope East and Delta Central.
According to the governor, Adiotomre was “a school, a library and a compass” to those who sought his counsel and direction.
He recalled that the deceased served the old Bendel State and Delta State meritoriously, including as Secretary of the defunct Bendel State Hospitals Management Board, as well as in other strategic public positions.
The governor said Adiotomre distinguished himself through his commitment to public service and his ability to promote dialogue and understanding across political divides.
He noted that the late statesman remained a voice of calm during periods of political tension, with his counsel respected by people across party lines.
Oborevwori also recalled Adiotomre’s reputation for moderation and reconciliation, which led to his appointment to the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council.
He described the late elder as a “voice of wisdom and moderation”, adding that his interventions often promoted understanding, unity and reconciliation.
“His interventions always birthed understanding, unity and reconciliation, a testament to true heroism and statesmanship,” the governor said.
Oborevwori commiserated with the Adiotomre family of Ovu-Inland, the people of Ethiope East and the entire Urhobo nation over the loss.
He prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest and give his family, friends and associates the strength to bear the loss.
