The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission to accelerate digital skills development, strengthen innovation ecosystems, and expand technology-driven opportunities across Nigeria’s Southwest region.
The partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both organisations, marking a significant step towards deepening digital inclusion and economic growth in the six Southwest states.
According to a statement issued by NITDA on Thursday, the collaboration seeks to bridge the gap between national digital policies and regional implementation by creating a coordinated framework for digital transformation across the region.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Kashifu Inuwa, Director-General of NITDA, stressed the importance of regional collaboration in unlocking Nigeria’s vast human capital potential and ensuring that citizens can actively participate in the digital economy.
He noted that strategic partnerships remain critical to fostering innovation, driving sustainable development, and translating national technology ambitions into real economic opportunities for communities.
According to Inuwa, effective cooperation between national institutions and regional bodies is essential for ensuring that the benefits of digital transformation reach every segment of society.
Seye Oyeleye, Director-General of the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria Commission, described the agreement as a major milestone in advancing digital literacy and technology adoption across the Southwest.
He expressed confidence that the partnership would catalyse accelerating digital development and create new opportunities for businesses, entrepreneurs, students, and technology innovators in the region.
The partnership is built around three major objectives:
- Accelerating digital skills acquisition and technology education across the Southwest.
- Strengthening existing innovation hubs and supporting emerging technology ecosystems.
- Developing a coordinated regional roadmap for digital transformation and economic growth.
Both organisations emphasised that the initiative is designed to ensure that no community is left behind in Nigeria’s digital future.
By combining NITDA’s national technology mandate with DAWN Commission’s regional reach, the partnership aims to create sustainable economic opportunities, boost innovation, and enhance digital inclusion across Lagos State, Ogun State, Oyo State, Osun State, Ondo State, and Ekiti State.
