The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has officially approved a three-year national roaming agreement between MTN Nigeria Communications Plc and Emerging Markets Telecommunications Services Limited (9mobile). This landmark deal will allow 9mobile subscribers to seamlessly access MTN’s extensive network infrastructure across Nigeria.

MTN Nigeria confirmed the agreement in a statement to the Nigerian Exchange, highlighting that this collaboration will significantly benefit 9mobile users. Under the terms, 9mobile customers can now connect to MTN’s network in areas where 9mobile’s own infrastructure might be limited, ensuring broader mobile communication service availability.

“The agreement allows 9mobile subscribers to roam seamlessly on MTN Nigeria’s network, fostering industry collaboration and enhancing operational efficiencies,” MTN’s statement read. The company emphasized that this partnership not only promotes better utilization of existing infrastructure but also expands access to mobile connectivity nationwide, contributing to the telecommunications industry’s overall sustainability.

Karl Toriola, CEO of MTN Nigeria, expressed strong optimism about the deal’s impact. “This agreement represents a significant step in our commitment to driving industry collaboration, improving customer experience, and supporting the NCC’s vision of a fully connected Nigeria,” Toriola stated. He further added that such collaborations between the private sector, public sector, and long-term investors are crucial for delivering telecommunications services at the scale required in Nigeria.

“This agreement demonstrates what we can achieve when we collaborate, and we are delighted to announce it today after months of groundwork,” he concluded.
