The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted healthcare providers and the public to the circulation of counterfeit VISITECT HIV Advanced Disease Test Kits in Nigeria.

In a public notice (Alert No. 011/2026), the agency said unregistered and parallel-imported versions of the diagnostic kits have been detected in the country.

NAFDAC explained that the VISITECT CD4 Advanced Disease test is a rapid diagnostic tool used to identify patients with severe HIV infection by detecting low CD4 levels within about 40 minutes using blood samples.

According to the agency, the genuine product is manufactured by AccuBio Ltd., Scotland, and marketed in Nigeria by Euro Specs International Nigeria Limited with NAFDAC registration number A3-100-153.

However, the counterfeit version is reportedly produced by Omega Diagnostics Ltd. in Scotland and carries no NAFDAC registration number. The fake product also indicates a three-year shelf life, contrary to the 18-month shelf life approved for the registered kit.

NAFDAC warned that falsified or unregistered medical products pose serious health risks because they have not been evaluated for quality, safety, or effectiveness.

The agency has directed its zonal directors and state coordinators to intensify surveillance and remove any counterfeit products found in circulation.

Healthcare providers and distributors have been urged to check their stocks and report any suspected fake products to the nearest NAFDAC office or through the agency’s hotline and pharmacovigilance platforms.
