The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has begun using drones to improve traffic control, security, and public safety throughout the state. This initiative, launched under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is a significant move toward modernizing the city’s traffic operations.
According to Olalekan Bakare-Oki, LASTMA General Manager the drones will provide a “watershed moment” for the agency. Equipped with high-definition cameras, they will allow LASTMA to move from simply reacting to traffic issues to using real-time aerial data for more effective, intelligence-driven management. Bakare-Oki assured the public that the drones will be used ethically, with strict privacy and safety guidelines, and will help the agency reduce congestion and respond faster to road accidents and other disruptions.
