The Lagos State Government has announced an eight-month road rehabilitation project along the Lekki–Ajah corridor, scheduled to run from November 15, 2025, to July 15, 2026, as part of efforts to improve infrastructure and ease persistent congestion on the busy route.
In a statement on Wednesday, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Commissioner for Transportation, announced that preliminary works have begun and the project will be executed in two phases to minimise disruptions for commuters.
Phase 1 will cover the stretch from the Lekki first toll gate to the second toll gate, divided into seven sections. One lane will remain open to traffic while work progresses on the other.
Phase 2 will extend from the second toll gate to the Ajah under-bridge, divided into four sections, following a similar alternating lane system to ensure continuous movement for motorists.
Osiyemi urged road users to adhere to traffic management directives and exercise patience, noting that partial closures are necessary but will be carefully managed to maintain traffic flow.
“These repairs form part of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to improving road quality and easing traffic congestion across the metropolis,” he said.
The Lekki–Ajah corridor serves as a critical route for daily commuters and commercial transporters, and the rehabilitation is expected to enhance road safety and travel efficiency once completed.
In a related development, the government recently announced a 15-day closure of the Marine Bridge in Ijora–Apapa for essential maintenance, underscoring its ongoing focus on infrastructure renewal across Lagos.
