Instagram has achieved a major milestone, surpassing three billion monthly active users worldwide as it approaches its 15th anniversary. Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, announced the achievement, highlighting the platform’s growth from a simple photo-sharing app (launched in 2010) into a global hub for creativity and connection.
The company is focusing on user experience with several new features rolling out soon:
- More Control Over Reels: Users will be able to customize their feed by indicating which topics they want to see more or less of.
- Simplified Navigation: The app will feature a cleaner layout, allowing for easier swiping between the main Home feed, Reels, and Messages.
- Reels-First Experience: Instagram is testing a new design in India and South Korea that prioritizes video content, allowing users to dive directly into Reels while still providing a dedicated “Following” tab for posts from people they follow.
The 3-billion-user mark solidifies Instagram’s position as one of the world’s largest social platforms, emphasizing its deep integration into global communication and culture.
