The Federal Government has released the 2026/2027 admission list for Junior Secondary School One (JSS1) candidates admitted into Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs) across Nigeria.
The Federal Ministry of Education announced the release in a statement on Monday, following approval by Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education.
Successful candidates can check their admission status and print their admission slips through the Federal Ministry of Education’s Posting Portal.
Parents and guardians can also check the admission status of their children and wards on the notice boards of the relevant Federal Unity Colleges.
Successful candidates are required to print their admission slips and proceed to the Federal Unity College indicated on the slip for confirmation and completion of the admission process.
The ministry advised parents and guardians to check the admission status of their children promptly and ensure that successful candidates report to their assigned schools as required.
Alausa said the release of the admission list reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and orderly admission process for prospective students seeking placement in Federal Unity Colleges.
The minister congratulated successful candidates and urged them to approach their academic journey with diligence, discipline and a commitment to excellence.
The latest admission exercise comes amid ongoing reforms aimed at improving the administration, funding, staffing and admission processes of Federal Unity Colleges.
In June 2025, Alausa called for reforms to the financial management of Unity Schools, including decentralised approvals and quarterly funding releases, following concerns over delays in overhead and school feeding allocations.
In August 2025, the Federal Ministry of Education announced that admission into Federal Unity Colleges would be fully automated and conducted within each school’s approved capacity.
The reform was designed to tackle overcrowding and pressure on facilities, with the exercise covering 80 conventional Federal Unity Colleges for JSS1 admissions at the time.
The Federal Government has also approved the recruitment of 3,252 verified Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers into the federal public service as part of efforts to strengthen staffing in federal schools.
The 2026/2027 Unity College admission exercise also comes as the Federal Government pursues broader reforms of Nigeria’s education system.
The government has begun moves to phase out the policy separating Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) from Senior Secondary Schools (SSS), with the proposed reform aimed at addressing overcrowding, underutilised school facilities and rising dropout rates.
Alausa has also proposed replacing Nigeria’s current 9-3-4 education structure with a 12-4 model, which would provide 12 years of uninterrupted basic education followed by four years of tertiary education.
The latest admission exercise is therefore part of a broader effort by the Federal Government to restructure and improve the country’s public education system.
