Dettol Nigeria has launched the “Dettol Original 12hrs Protection Challenge,” a nationwide consumer storytelling competition encouraging Nigerians to build consistent, daily hygiene habits.
Running from July 13 to August 15, the contest invites consumers to create and share a 60-second video on Instagram featuring a bar of Dettol Original Soap while telling their personal stories and memories with the brand. A total of 25 winners will be selected to receive various prizes, with full details available on the brand’s official Instagram page.
Through the initiative, Dettol aims to highlight real-life experiences and generational memories connected to the brand while driving conversations around personal protection and family health.
Boma Harrison, Marketing Director at Reckitt West Africa, stated that the campaign serves as an important reminder for people navigating daily public spaces. She noted that exposure to germs is constant during everyday activities like commuting, school, and work, and that the campaign encourages making hygiene a routine part of life so Nigerians can move through their day with confidence.
The contest builds on Dettol’s broader “12 Hour Protective Shield” campaign, which highlights the antibacterial soap’s ability to support the skin’s natural defenses for up to 12 hours.
The initiative coincides with Nigeria’s ongoing rainy season, which has brought heavy flooding across Lagos and several other states. Health experts have warned that contact with contaminated floodwaters heightens the risk of waterborne illnesses such as cholera and typhoid. Dettol noted that proper hygiene plays a critical role during this period, citing World Health Organization data showing that effective hygiene practices can reduce diarrheal diseases by up to 30 percent and acute respiratory infections by up to 17 percent.
