The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has issued a security alert for all Google Chrome users in the country, warning them about new vulnerabilities in the web browser. The NDPC stated that if these flaws are exploited, attackers could gain unauthorised access to a user’s computer and carry out a range of harmful activities.
The commission warned that the vulnerabilities could allow cybercriminals to install malicious programs, steal or change user data, and even create new user accounts with full administrative control. To protect themselves, the NDPC advises Nigerians to update their Google Chrome browser immediately. The commission also recommends that users operate with standard user rights instead of administrative ones whenever possible and to be cautious when clicking on suspicious links or attachments.
