Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has promoted Appolonia Anele, the acting Director of Army Public Relations, to the rank of Colonel.

Shaibu, represented by Major General Bamidele Alabi, Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), decorated Anele at a brief ceremony held on Tuesday at the Army Headquarters, Abuja.

He praised Anele for her professionalism, consistency, and dedication to duty, noting that her elevation reflects the Nigerian Army’s recognition of hard work and excellence.

The COAS also encouraged the Directorate of Army Public Relations to continue strengthening transparent, accountable, and timely communication to boost public trust in the military. He reiterated that effective strategic communication is vital to sustaining national confidence in the armed forces.

Shaibu charged the newly promoted colonel to remain disciplined, loyal, and committed to mentoring junior officers to improve the directorate’s overall performance.

In her response, Anele expressed gratitude to God and the leadership of the Armed Forces, including General Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Defence Staff, and the COAS, for their guidance and support throughout her career.

The event was attended by senior military officers, former Army spokespersons, family members, and well-wishers.
