Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Group, has pledged a total cash reward of $1.5 million for Nigeria’s Super Eagles if they go on to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Rabiu announced a $500,000 bonus should the team defeat Morocco in their semi-final clash and qualify for the final. He also promised an additional $1 million if the Super Eagles lift the trophy on Sunday.

The billionaire industrialist announced on Saturday via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, shortly after Nigeria’s 2–0 quarter-final victory over Algeria in Marrakech, which secured a semi-final showdown against tournament hosts Morocco.

Congratulating the players on what he described as a brilliant and inspiring performance, Rabiu said the pledge was meant to motivate the team as they chase a fourth AFCON title.

“To encourage you, I pledge USD $500,000 to the players upon winning the semi-final, with an additional USD $50,000 for every goal scored,” he said.

He added that the incentive would increase significantly if Nigeria wins the final. “Should you go on to win the final, I further pledge USD $1,000,000, plus USD $100,000 for each goal scored in the final,” Rabiu stated.

President Bola Tinubu also joined in celebrating the Super Eagles’ progress, congratulating the team for their performance against Algeria and assuring them of national support.

In a post on his official X handle, @officialABAT, the President described the display as inspiring and urged the team to keep pushing. “Go, Super Eagles! You have the support of all Nigerians,” he wrote.

Nigeria’s quarter-final victory was sealed by second-half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams, extending the team’s unbeaten run at the tournament to five matches with a perfect record.

The Super Eagles will now face Morocco in a high-stakes semi-final, as they continue their quest for a fourth continental crown.

The latest show of support comes after earlier concerns over unpaid bonuses, which had reportedly led to tensions within the camp. However, the issue was quickly resolved by the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, confirmed that President Tinubu approved the Super Eagles’ full AFCON 2025 budget as far back as November 14, 2025, ensuring alignment among key stakeholders, including the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation, and the players.
