The Abia State Government has announced plans to build a Mini Hollywood and entertainment village in Aba to drive growth in the creative industry, expand entrepreneurship, and create jobs.
Governor Alex Otti disclosed the plan during the 65th birthday celebration of veteran musician Sir Bright Chimezie in Umuahia. He said the project is aimed at supporting film, music, and other creative talents in the state, adding that while Abia may not rival global entertainment hubs, it is committed to developing a strong local creative ecosystem.
The governor also revealed plans to establish an arts and culture gallery in Umuahia to promote the state’s cultural heritage and creative expression. He called on artists and cultural practitioners to collaborate with the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy by contributing ideas and expertise.
Otti praised Sir Bright Chimezie for his contributions to the promotion of Igbo culture and language, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to celebrating excellence, integrity, and hard work. He noted that government support would prioritise initiatives that grow the economy and discourage the glorification of illicit wealth.
The Commissioner for Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hon. Matthew Ekwuribe, commended the governor’s consistent backing of the arts, saying the creative sector has recorded notable progress under the current administration.
