Professor Edoba Omoregbe, Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, has praised members of the Christian Union Alumni Association (CUAA) for their unwavering commitment to the growth and development of the institution.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the CUAA 2026 Convention, the Vice Chancellor noted that the association has continued to play significant roles in building capacity, promoting the image of the university, supporting mentorship initiatives and contributing positively to the advancement of the institution.
Professor Omoregbe, who was represented at the event by Prof. Christopher Osubor, Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, described the alumni body as an important partner in the university’s drive towards academic excellence and institutional development.
He disclosed that the university has established over 20 new academic courses aimed at expanding opportunities for students and contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s socio-economic growth and manpower development.
According to him, the university also recorded a major milestone in the last academic session with the admission of over 15,000 new students, reflecting the institution’s growing relevance and appeal.
“As an alumnus of this great institution, I am deeply committed to moving the university forward and ensuring that UNIBEN continues to maintain its place as one of Nigeria’s leading universities,” he stated.
The Vice Chancellor further revealed that the university has established the UNIBEN Development Trust Fund as part of efforts to mobilise resources for infrastructural development, research advancement and other strategic initiatives that will strengthen the institution’s future.
He called on alumni, stakeholders and development partners to continue supporting the university’s vision and aspirations.
Professor Omoregbe thereafter formally declared the CUAA 2026 Convention open.
In his remarks, Pastor Timothy Eghenlen, PhD, the President of the Christian Union Alumni Association, expressed appreciation to the university administration for its goodwill and support towards the association.
“We deeply appreciate the goodwill from the university administration and we do not take it for granted,” he said.
Pastor Eghenlen noted that the association remains committed to fostering spiritual growth, strengthening fellowship among members, supporting mentorship for students and contributing to the overall development of the university community.
He highlighted plans by the association to expand its developmental initiatives, deepen alumni engagement and promote impactful programmes that will benefit both members and the institution.
The Christian Union Alumni Association (CUAA) is a body of former members of the Christian Union of the University of Benin, united by a shared vision of spiritual development, service, leadership and commitment to societal transformation. The association continues to serve as a platform for networking, mentorship, community impact and support for the university.
