FCCPC Seals Ikeja Electric HQ Over Consumer Rights Violation

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed the Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) headquarters in Alausa, Lagos, for violating consumer rights.

Bola Adeyinka, FCCPC’s Director of Surveillance and Investigation, said the action follows the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018 and comes after repeated engagement and opportunities for voluntary compliance. The seal will remain until Ikeja Electric fully complies with directives from NERC and FCCPC and submits written evidence of compliance.

Reacting, Kingsley Okotie, IKEDC Head of Corporate Communications, said the issue stems from an isolated customer case involving multiple meter requests after a property converted from hotel to residential use. He assured that the electricity supply to customers remains uninterrupted while the company engages with the Commission to resolve the matter.

Last year, FCCPC had warned IKEDC and Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDP) over non-compliance with directives on Unistar prepaid meters under the National Mass Metering Programme (NMMP).
