Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group) has expanded its flagship nutrition intervention, Project BLOOM (Bringing Life to Our Overlooked Minors), to Ajegunle (Lagos State Health District V), reaching over 120 children and their caregivers. The project, in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Health and Health Emergency Initiative (HEI), aims to combat severe child malnutrition.
Key Results and Impact
- Ajegunle Screening: Initial screenings in Ajegunle revealed that 69 children were moderately malnourished, 29 were severely malnourished, and 24 were at risk. These children received Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTFs) and health checks.
- Strong Recovery: The program builds on the success of its pilot outreach, where follow-up monitoring showed that 48.8 per cent of previously malnourished children regained a healthy weight, affirming the program’s measurable impact.
- Caregiver Education: Mothers and caregivers attended practical training sessions focused on preparing low-cost, nutritious meals and maintaining proper hygiene to ensure sustained recovery.
- Volunteer Support: Over 20 NGX Group employees volunteered alongside health workers, assisting with screenings and training, which reinforces the company’s commitment to social responsibility.
Temi Popoola, NGX Group’s CEO, stated that this success “affirms that our partnership… is driving real, measurable change,” linking strong capital markets with strong, healthy communities. Project BLOOM is now set to scale up across other underserved Lagos communities.
