President Bola Tinubu has lifted the six-month state of emergency in Rivers State, which will allow Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other state officials to return to office on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Presidency said the emergency rule, imposed on March 18, was necessary to end a political crisis that had led to a “total paralysis of governance.” The crisis stemmed from a conflict between the governor and 27 lawmakers, which the Supreme Court had noted left the state without a functioning government.
