The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) are increasing their collaboration to fast-track the launch of the Nigerian National Single Window (NSW) platform. The goal is to meet the government’s deadline of the first quarter of 2026.

What the National Single Window Does

The National Single Window, a major digital trade initiative, is designed to simplify and speed up trade in Nigeria. It will serve as a central hub, bringing all relevant government agencies onto a single platform. This will allow importers and exporters to process all necessary documentation and clear goods more efficiently.

Benefits of the platform include:

  • Faster Cargo Clearance: Reduced processing times and fewer bureaucratic delays.
  • Increased Revenue: Better compliance and less revenue leakage for the government.
  • Improved Competitiveness: Nigeria will become a more attractive place for international trade and foreign investment.

Pushing for the Deadline

Both FIRS and Customs are prioritizing the project. Dr. Zacch Adedeji, FIRS Executive Chairman, emphasized that working together is critical to launching the first phase by March 2026. He noted that integrating their revenue collection systems will not only make things more efficient but also significantly boost Nigeria’s non-oil revenue.

Adewale Adeniyi, NCS Comptroller-General, confirmed that the NSW is a top priority for the current administration, aimed at modernizing Nigeria’s trade ecosystem and reducing bottlenecks.

The project is now in its “critical development and integration phase,” and both agencies are working to ensure the necessary support is in place to meet the 2026 deadline.
