The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has recorded another milestone in professional development with the successful introduction of a PR Movie Edition of its Monthly Meeting/PR Clinic, attracting more than 200 public relations professionals and other participants.
Held on Thursday, 6 August 2026, at the Eko FM Multipurpose Hall, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos, the innovative edition moved beyond the conventional lecture and presentation format by using film as a platform for professional learning, reflection and peer-to-peer exchange.
The special PR Clinic featured the screening of a highly acclaimed PR strategy film, followed by an interactive discussion during which practitioners examined the communication and public relations lessons embedded in the film.
The movie offered participants practical insights into some of the most important dimensions of contemporary public relations, including strategic positioning and message framing, the power of narrative in shaping public opinion, crisis communication and perception management, political branding and campaign strategy, media relations and agenda setting, as well as the ethical boundaries of persuasive communication.
Rather than treating the film merely as entertainment, the Lagos NIPR transformed the screening into a professional learning experience, encouraging participants to interrogate the strategic decisions, communication choices and consequences portrayed in the story.
The interactive session that followed generated lively contributions from members, who shared their individual interpretations and professional lessons from the movie. Participants reflected on how the principles demonstrated on screen could be applied to corporate communication, political communication, reputation management, crisis response, media engagement and strategic advocacy.
For many participants, the initiative represented a refreshing departure from the traditional format of professional meetings.
Speaking on the innovation, Samuel Ayetutu, PhD, frnipr the Lagos NIPR Chairman, noted that the enthusiastic response from members demonstrated the value of creating more engaging, experiential and participatory platforms for continuous professional development.
The attendance of over 200 participants further underscored the growing interest among public relations professionals in innovative approaches to learning and professional engagement.
The PR Movie Edition also reinforced the Lagos Chapter’s commitment to repositioning its Monthly Meeting/PR Clinic as more than a routine professional gathering, but as a dynamic platform where practitioners can learn, exchange ideas, challenge assumptions and connect professional theory with real-world communication practice.
The initiative is consistent with the Chapter’s broader commitment to strengthening the professional capacity of practitioners while creating opportunities for meaningful engagement and collaboration within the profession.
The successful August edition has also generated considerable enthusiasm among members, with participants expressing appreciation for what many described as a first-of-its-kind experience at the Lagos NIPR Monthly Meeting/PR Clinic.
The Lagos NIPR remains committed to exploring innovative approaches that make professional development more relevant, practical and engaging for practitioners at different stages of their careers.
