NCC Hosts Virtual Stakeholders’ Forum on Draft A2P Licensing Framework

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has held a Virtual Stakeholders’ Forum to discuss the Draft Application-to-Person (A2P) Messaging Services Licensing Framework. This event underscores the Commission’s unwavering commitment to fostering innovation, protecting stakeholders, and creating a regulatory environment that ensures the continued growth of Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.

In his welcome address, Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman (EVC)/CEO, NCC, emphasized the importance of collaboration in shaping a comprehensive licensing framework for A2P messaging services. He reiterated the NCC’s commitment to creating a regulatory environment that promotes growth and innovation within the sector. “The Nigerian Communications Commission remains committed to providing a regulatory environment that supports innovation, protects stakeholders, and ensures that our telecommunications sector continues to thrive,” Dr. Maida stated.

The forum provided an opportunity for the NCC to present feedback received from stakeholders on the draft framework. The Commission also responded to observations and recommendations made by stakeholders, ensuring that all inputs were thoroughly addressed.

The NCC underscored its commitment to inclusivity and transparency, describing today’s forum as the first step in a participatory rule-making process. Moving forward, the Commission will continue to engage both internal and external stakeholders as it works toward finalizing the A2P Messaging Services Licensing Framework.

During the event, Mrs. Truddy Tony-Awusaku, an Assistant Director in the Licensing and Authorization Department, delivered a detailed presentation on the proposed framework for international A2P messaging in Nigeria. Her presentation provided stakeholders with a comprehensive overview of the framework’s objectives, structure, and potential impact on the telecommunications industry.

The NCC remains resolute in its mission to create an enabling environment that supports industry growth, encourages innovation, and protects the interests of all stakeholders. The deliberations and insights from this forum will guide the Commission in refining the framework to ensure it aligns with the needs of the sector.
