Award-winning marketing communications professional and Brandcom Awards’ Top 35 Under 35 honoree, Chinwendu Ohakpougwu, has been appointed Head, Marketing and Communications at Coronation Merchant Bank.

In her new role, Ohakpougwu will lead the bank’s brand management, marketing strategy, corporate communications, media relations, and stakeholder engagement initiatives. She is expected to drive campaigns that enhance the bank’s visibility, strengthen its reputation, and support business growth.

A seasoned communications strategist with extensive experience in the financial services sector, Ohakpougwu has built a reputation for developing high-impact marketing and communications campaigns that deliver measurable business results. Her expertise spans branding, corporate communications, digital marketing, stakeholder engagement, and reputation management.

Before joining Coronation Merchant Bank, she served as Communications Manager at Paga, where she led strategic communications across the company’s three business lines, Paga Engine, Paga Consumer, and Doroki. In that capacity, she oversaw corporate, executive, and product communications, helping to strengthen the fintech group’s market presence.

Prior to Paga, she was Group Head of Marketing and Communications at TrustBanc Financial Group, where she played a key role in shaping the institution’s brand and communications strategy.

Ohakpougwu’s professional journey began in journalism as a reporter with Sahara Reporters Media Group, where she covered major national issues and conducted investigative reporting, including coverage of the 2017 Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB crisis.

She later worked as Communications Assistant to acclaimed Nigerian author and feminist icon, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, supporting the development and execution of communications strategies and media engagement activities.

Her career also includes roles at Renmoney, where she served as Corporate Communications Officer, and at Hill+Knowlton Strategies, where she managed public relations accounts for leading organizations including Visa, Standard Chartered, WorldRemit, FBNQuest, Agusto & Co., and WARIF.

Additionally, she held leadership positions at DLM Capital, serving as both Corporate Communications Manager and Head of Corporate Communications.

Ohakpougwu holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the National Open University of Nigeria, a Diploma in Media Studies from the Saylor Foundation, and a professional certification in Public Relations from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations.

Her appointment is expected to further strengthen Coronation Merchant Bank’s brand positioning and communications strategy as the institution continues to expand its footprint in Nigeria’s financial services sector.
