Meta has begun rolling out new subscription plans for users of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp as the tech giant pushes to expand revenue streams beyond digital advertising.

The global rollout, announced on Wednesday, introduces new “Plus” subscription plans designed to offer users enhanced platform features, advanced customisation tools, and deeper engagement options.

Under the new structure, users can subscribe to:

  • Instagram Plus
  • Facebook Plus
  • WhatsApp Plus

Monthly subscription fees range from $2.99 to $3.99 depending on the platform and package selected.

According to Naomi Gleit, Meta’s Head of Product, the subscription plans are aimed at users seeking more functionality and premium engagement tools across Meta’s ecosystem.

She said additional features would be introduced over time, especially for creators, influencers, and highly active users.

Meta also disclosed plans to test new professional and AI-powered subscription offerings under a broader subscription ecosystem branded “Meta One.”

As part of the expansion, Meta is testing two premium AI subscription tiers priced at:

  • $7.99 monthly
  • $19.99 monthly

The AI-focused plans are designed for users of Meta AI and will offer:

  • Greater computing power for advanced queries
  • Improved reasoning capabilities
  • Enhanced image and video generation tools
  • Expanded AI functionality across Meta platforms

Testing for the AI subscriptions is expected to begin next month in markets including Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia.

The new Instagram Plus package includes several premium features, such as:

  • Story rewatch analytics
  • Unlimited custom audience lists beyond “Close Friends”
  • Weekly story spotlighting for more visibility
  • Extended Story duration beyond 24 hours
  • Anonymous Story previews
  • Viewer search tools
  • Additional profile customisation options
  • Custom app icons and profile fonts
  • Animated “Super Heart” reactions

Users can also post directly to their profile highlights without pushing content into followers’ feeds.

Facebook Plus will offer similar engagement and customisation tools.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp Plus will introduce:

  • Custom app themes
  • Premium stickers
  • Personalized ringtones
  • Additional pinned chats
  • Enhanced list customisation tools
